13 Trends Fashion-Loving Brides Championed This Year

In 2022 it felt like “wedding season” was every single day of the year, as years of restrictions and cancelled events meant that we were all making up for lost time. This pause however afforded many the time to really think about how they wanted to celebrate, which traditions to embrace and which ones to ignore completely. When it comes to bridal wear, there are now so many more options available for brides who are looking for something with a fashion edge.

Bridal is now big business for the likes of Net-A-Porter, Matches Fashion and Moda Operandi, as many more contemporary designers have entered into this once traditional market. Here at British Vogue, we’ve covered everything from Halloween-inspired extravaganzas to a wedding in the White House. When it comes to the fashion, there have been timeless, traditional wedding dresses, but also more avant-garde looks that dispense with the rule book entirely. Whether you get married in white leggings or a sweeping, frothy gown, the most important thing is that on the day your outfit reflects your own personal style, and makes you feel at your most confident.

As the year draws to a close, look back at some of the most fabulous weddings of 2022, to see how brides added a fashion edge to their wedding look this year. Think Jackie Kennedy coats, pearl chokers, archival corsets and beautiful tulle gowns.

The “wow” coat

Fashion PR Daisy Hoppen got married in London in November, and in the evening changed into a beautiful custom coat by one of her clients, Shrimps. Founder Hannah Weiland made her a snow-white swing coat inspired by an old photograph of Jackie Kennedy. This is the part of a bridal outfit that often gets overlooked – but why not invest in a fabulous formal coat you can wear again and again?

Pearl chokers

Pearls are a classic choice for bridal jewellery, and we love how Danielle Copperman went bold on the accessories with a three-string pearl necklace. It adds a real sense of nostalgic, retro charm.
