Betty L. Mann | Obituary

Merrimac – Betty L. Mann, 89, of Merrimac, MA passed away early Sunday morning on January 15, 2023, surrounded by her children.

Betty, the daughter of the late Joseph and Georgina Brawley, was born in Medford, MA on November 11, 1933. She was a graduate of Medford High School Class of 1951. She graduated from Lowell State Teachers College in 1955 and went on to teach 5th grade in Wakefield, MA for 8 years. In 1962, she married Walter H. (Peter) Mann of Lawrence, MA and the following year moved to Southboro, MA where they started their family. Peter and Betty moved to Merrimac, MA in 1972 where they raised their 5 children.

Betty and Peter were fortunate to travel to many beautiful places together – Bermuda (their favorite), The Bahamas, St. Martin & Dunedin, FL. The last 2 weeks of every July was spent with family at Moody Beach in Wells, Maine with the door always open to visitors. The family also spent many long weekends in the winter at their 2nd home skiing Sugarloaf Mountain.

Betty and Peter celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at a ‘surprise’ weekend get-away in August, 2012 with their 5 children, their spouses, and 11 grandchildren at a 10-bedroom home in North Conway, NH. A memory that they cherished and bragged about every chance they got. They recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this past summer with their ever growing family.

Betty was a faithful member of the Church of the Holy Redeemer and President of the Catholic Women’s Club for many years. She was a gifted artist who lent her talents to the Church as well as the local schools over the years. She painted the school mascot on the former gymnasium floor of the Pentucket High School as well as the Quonset Hut. Over the years she gifted her loved ones with many paintings, ceramics and other works of art that are treasured by all.

Betty leaves behind her husband of 60 years, Peter Mann, of Merrimac, MA; her 5 children, Eric and Shirley Mann of North Andover, MA; Alicia and Joe Couturier of Merrimac, MA; Andrea Mann of Merrimac, MA; Vicky and Dave Skolnick of Belmont, MA; and Michael and Lana Mann of Merrimac, MA. She also leaves behind her wonderful grandchildren who she made laugh with her quick wit and was always ready with a welcoming kiss and hug: Katie Mann of Dover, NH; Jake and his wife, Sarah Mann of Dover, NH; Peter and Allie Mann of North Andover; Ryan Couturier and his fiancé, Carley Desjardins of Newton, NH; Abby Couturier of Hampstead, NH; Kevin Couturier of Merrimac; Bradley and Thomas Skolnick of Belmont, MA; Lydia and Nolan Mann of Merrimac, MA.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Betty’s name to The Friends of the Council on Aging and mailed to Merrimac Senior Center at 100 East Main Street, Merrimac, MA 01860.

Visiting hours will be Friday, January 27, 2023 from 4 to 7 P.M. at Paul C. Rogers Family Funeral Home, 36 West Main Street, Merrimac. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, January 28, 2023 at 10 A.M. at the Church of the Nativity of the Holy Redeemer Parish, 4 Green Street, Merrimac, MA. Interment will take place at a later date at Locust Grove Cemetery, Merrimac.
