Bride shamed for making wedding GUESTS do the dishes after blowing her budget on venue & there wasn’t even enough food

A BRIDE and groom desperate for their dream wedding certainly pulled out all the stops to ensure a perfect day.

There was one problem though, they didn’t have the funds to cover everything they wanted so they skimped on food for most of the guests and made them do the dishes.

You see, the bride wasn’t going to give up her expensive couture gown or the extravagant venue she had in mind. with meant making cutbacks elsewhere.

They decided to “self-cater” the event but it turns out they couldn’t afford to feed everyone at their wedding making it first-in-first-served and the rest miss out.

What’s more, a handful of guests were ushered into the kitchen post meal to do the dishes themselves, as the couple didn’t even have enough money left for staff.

An angry guest, and relative of the bride, detailed the wedding disaster online explaining they had massively overspent on their opulent wedding location.

Unfortunately, it was the guests who had to suffer though as she explained: “I, and about nine other guests, spend most of the reception in the kitchen, elbow deep in soap and water.”

In her lengthy Reddit post she said many of the guests were stunned by the chain of events, according to Seven News.

“The bride, a relative of mine, and groom, have gone all out, renting a gorgeous and expensive venue for their wedding,” the guest said, recalling the shocking event.

“Beautiful ceremony, lovely pictures, etc. The buffet line and tables have been set up on the screened porch of the building.”

She remembers thinking “the food looks great” before serving up a plate and sitting down to eat it.

Her partner had gone to the restroom first which “took a while” as there were “few restrooms available for guests.”

“He then comes back to the table with an empty plate. When I asked why, he says there’s no more food.”

Not bevelling what she’d heard, the guest went looking for answers only to be told there was no more food.

“I find the bride’s mum and whisper that she should probably ask the caterers to put out more food,” she said.

“She gets a peculiar expression on her face and says there is no more food. What was on the buffet line is all that they have. Period.

There was only enough food for some of the guests and others went hungry

“It then comes out that the bride and groom blew most of their wedding money on the venue and the bride’s (admittedly beautiful) couture gown, so they decided to ‘self cater’”

She went on to explain that a “family friend” volunteered the make the food but the soon-to-be-married couple wanted a certain “opulence” so they bought top-of-the-line ingredients.

This included pricey cuts of meat, artisan bread and a selection of cheeses – but only for three quarters of the guests.

“They ended up with only enough to feed about three out of four of the guests,” she continued. “The rest went hungry.”

But that’s when things got worse and the “maid of honour starts coming around and asking some of us to come with her into the kitchen.”

Not only were they made to scrub the dirty dishes but the woman said “there is no air conditioning so this kitchen is about a zillion degrees.”

“She shows us stacks of plates and cups and then tells us we need to wash them,” she said.

“Apparently part of self-catering is you rent the dishes and glassware, and if they aren’t returned clean at the end of the evening you lose your deposit.”

The couple hadn’t hired anyone to clean up so it was up to the guests who spent “most of the reception in the kitchen, elbow deep in soap and water.”

This meant they “missed the first dance and the cutting of the cake,” which didn’t really matter as “they hadn’t purchase enough cake for everyone either.”

Understandably, Reddit users were gobsmacked and couldn’t believe the “outrageous” behaviour of the bride and groom.

“That is INSANE. Imagine inviting a bunch of folks then having the gall to tell them 1/4 of them will DELIBERATELY be left hungry. Including cake!(sic)” said one.

Added another: “I would have refused and left right then and there.”

While a third added: “This is a horror story.”
