  • People online slammed her a ‘gross’ and ‘disgusting’

A bride attempted to cut down costs at her wedding by using instant mashed potato powder instead of confetti during her exit from the ceremony.

A photographer revealed she worked at a wedding where the bride ordered boxes of the instant mashed potato as a budget option to confetti, flower petals or rice for guests to throw as the couple exited the ceremony.

She said mashed potato ended up ‘everywhere’ even in guests hair and clothing, when the ‘confetti’ was mixed with sweat and spilled drinks.

The story has been circulating online much to the horror of many who slammed the ‘bizarre’ budget hack as ‘gross’ and ‘disgusting’.

However some thought the trick was a good idea saying it’s a better option for the environment.

Thousands have been left horrified after a photographer revealed they worked at a wedding where the bride had guests throw instant mashed potato instead of confetti

Posting to a wedding-shaming Facebook group, the photographer said: ‘Funny story, so a bride went cheap on her confetti exit and they ordered boxes of ‘instant mashed potato’.

‘Let’s just say with sweat and spilled drinks from the night they all ended up having mashed potato everywhere.’

She said there was mashed potato all over the ground as well as in guests hair and inside their clothing but they were not deterred and ‘continued with the party’.

People were horrified by the mashed potato mess and wondered why the bride would use the unorthodox powder as a confetti substitute.

Photographer: This is the one mistake wedding guests make when throwing confetti

Throw the confetti up in the air… not directly at the couple.

By throwing it up in the air, it will be in the air for longer and it will look so much better in photos.

Be careful when you start throwing stuff at people. Get someone to tell your guests to throw the confetti in the air, not at the couples face.

Rice hurts, paper panes are pointy, confetti is a potential choking hazard for babies and confetti canons are legitimately dangerous if used irresponsibly. Give them to responsible people to use.

‘Instant mashed potatoes as confetti is unimaginable in my head. Like what the f***?’ one woman wrote.

‘Yeah I forgot about how mashed potatoes were cheaper than confetti,’ another said.

‘Gross! Someone did NOT think through what happens to dehydrated food when it hits sweat. Even ‘normal’ amounts of sweat,’ a third pointed out.

‘Why would you ever, ever do that?? Bubbles. Or idk, dried lavender is from the f**king earth. That might’ve been what we used, I can’t remember. Or just throw nothing. But potatoes??’ a fourth asked.

Some thought the confetti hack was hilarious and wished they had been a guest at the wedding.

‘I love this. Not that they did it, but that they did it. Know what I mean? Like WTF, but also hahaha to be a fly on the wall!’ someone replied.

‘Wow what a terrible choice but for my own amusement, thank you for making it,’ a second laughed.

Others were sceptical as to whether the story was true before one person came forward with more details.

‘This actually did happen, and it continues to happen. Dehydrated potatoes don’t need to be cleaned up like paper, they’re safe for wildlife, and they don’t harm the environment,’ they said.

‘In the case of this specific story, the couple were doing a photo shoot at the reception rather than it taking place following the wedding, which is why it wound up being a mess.’
