(Oct. 6, 2022) Flowers on Chestnut isn’t going anywhere, owner Michael Molinar says. Even though the building, at 1 Chestnut Street, has recently been listed for sale for $7.5 million, Molinar said he is committed to making sure the next owner is willing to continue the business, which is a vital cog in the wedding and event business on Nantucket.
“I have no intention of selling to anyone who doesn’t want to be in the flower business,” Molinar said. “We do a lot for this community and we’re a good addition to downtown Nantucket. This town has been very good to me and I will do what I can to ensure a flower shop is downtown.”
Molinar said he has been advised that it could take a while to find a buyer who also wants to be in the flower business, but he’s willing to wait.
The store just celebrated its 35th anniversary with Molinar, 64, at the helm.
“Hopefully it will be a seamless ownership change and the next generation can take the shop to the next level and do even more wedding work and bring even more weddings to the island,” he said.
