Concetta Azzarella, 96, known as “Kay”, a resident of Graystone Manor, Altoona, formerly of Johnstown, died Friday at UPMC Altoona. She was born in Johnstown, daughter of John and Antonette (Zagarino) Bennese. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Paul Azzarella; brothers, Louis Bennese and Domenick “Tony” Bennese; and grandson-in-law, Craig Turner.

Surviving are her daughter, Paulette, wife of Louis Gresik, of Altoona; granddaughters: Dr. Carolyn, wife of Lawrence Hagg, of Hollidaysburg and Valerie Turner, of High Point N.C.; great- grandchildren: Second Lieutenant Nathan Hagg (Alyssa McGee), Megan Hagg, Ryan Hagg, Brady Turner, Becca Turner; brother, Joseph Bennese, married to Elvira, of Clearfield; sisters-in-law, Eva Domen and Janet Bennese; and nieces and nephews.

Kay was a Johnstown High School graduate and retired from Greater Johnstown School District as a teacher’s aide after 40 years, and was a member of the PSEA. Kay was a lifelong member of St. Anthony, now St. Clare of Assisi Parish, where she was a choir member, CCD teacher, festival worker and baker for the nut roll fundraisers. Kay enjoyed baking wedding cakes and Italian cookies for her family and friends. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 22, 2021, at Frank Duca Funeral Home, Westmont Chapel, 1622 Menoher Blvd., Johnstown. A funeral Mass will follow at Noon at St. Clare of Assisi Parish, with Father George Gulash officiating. Interment will be at St. Anthony Cemetery.
