Weddings are usually a time for celebration and joy, bringing together families and friends to witness two people exchange their vows and declare their love for each other.
However, sometimes even the most extraordinary events can be ruined by drama, especially when an ex-spouse is involved. In this case, a woman has found herself at the center of a heated debate after attending her ex-husband’s wedding and allegedly upstaging the bride.
Jane’s Story
A woman, whom we’ll call Jane, recently attended her ex-husband’s wedding to his new bride, Stephanie. Despite having a peaceful divorce, the bride was unhappy about her presence. She accused her of intentionally upstaging her by wearing a “party dress.”
Jane had driven two hours to the wedding with her three children, who she was responsible for dropping off at the event. Therefore, she believed it was only reasonable for her to attend the wedding reception and told her no.
Stephanie, however, had a different perspective. She felt that Jane’s dress was too attention-grabbing and would upstage hers, and she asked her to please leave.
However, Jane stood her ground and declined the request, stating that she had been invited to the wedding and intended to stay for the entire duration. She also mentioned that she had no interest in “stealing” her ex-husband back and had no intention of ruining the bride’s special day.
Despite this, Stephanie accused her of trying to ruin her day. She believed the woman was trying to make her wedding about their divorce. However, Jane’s former and Stephanie’s new mother-in-law helped her to calm down, and the wedding soon began.
Stephanie later spoke to her privately, accusing her of being rude for not leaving when requested and for showing off in her party dress.
However, Jane insisted that she was not responsible for Stephanie’s insecurities and reminded her again that her attendance was not intended to upstage or ruin the special day.

You Leave If the Bride Asks You to Leave
Another suggested, “Your ex never told Stephanie you accepted the invitation. Stephanie was rude. Still, you refused to leave a wedding when the bride asked you to. If the host of an event asks you to leave, you exit the event.”
However, after seeing the dress, this user agreed that she knew what she was doing and should have never even shown up in the dress.
Damaged Good Working Relationship

You Don’t Wear Red to Weddings
Several users in the thread noted that it’s well-known that you don’t wear flashy colors like red to a wedding unless you’re part of a wedding party, and that is the color.
One explained, “Generally, it’s frowned upon to wear red, black, and white to a wedding regardless of the stipulated dress code.”
