Donald J. Lydick Sr. | Obituary

Methuen – Donald J. Lydick, 86 of Methuen, died peacefully on Friday, January 6, 2023 at Lawrence General Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
Born during a flood on March 13, 1936, he was the son of the late George and Julia (Niziolek) Lydick. He was a longtime resident of Lawrence before moving to North Andover and then to Atkinson, NH. Don was a graduate of Lawrence High School and a member of the LHS Athletic Hall of Fame. He retains the highest single game point record in basketball at LHS. A lifelong athlete, he was a long time member of the Lawrence YMCA and Cedardale and participated in many sports including semi pro basketball, swimming, golf and tennis.
Don was an award winning PPA Master photographer and teacher. He had a long 55 year career as a wedding and portrait photographer. He and his late wife, Marcia were longtime owners of Lydick Photography in Lawrence. He was also a member of several local and national professional organizations. He and his wife enjoyed winters at their home in Florida. He brought his grandchildren on many trips to Disney World and enjoyed yearly outings to Canobie Lake with them. His yearly Christmas tradition was bringing all the kids to the Boston Nutcracker.
Besides his parents, he is predeceased by his wife, Marcia; son, Donald Jr.; his brother, George; son-in-law, Robert Staid; and granddaughter, Kathleen Staid.
He is survived by his daughters, Jane Staid of Danville, NH, Joanne Fleming and her husband, Chris of Methuen, and Joyce Censullo and her husband, Donald of Haverhill; his grandchildren, Marissa McLean, Amanda Cox and her husband, Patrick, Kelly Azarian and her husband, Anthony, Jonathan Lydick, Julia Censullo and Mitchell Censullo; 11 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and countless friends. He always referred to Linda Riordan as his fourth daughter as she is a lifelong friend of the family.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 10, 2023 at 10 a.m. at St. Michael Parish, 196 Main Street in North Andover. There are no calling hours due to current multiple viral illnesses in circulation. At the request of the family, all guests are to meet directly at the church. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, his family asks that you please consider donating to the Methuen Senior Activity Center, 77 Lowell St., Methuen, MA 01844 where he spent much of his time enjoying friends and playing pool in his later years.
