Doris Amburn Tabor, age 92, of Stuart,VA, formerly of Bluefield, VA died Tuesday, October 19, 2021.
She was born April 1, 1929 in Bluefield VA to the late Preston and Ada Mae Davis Amburn. She graduated from Graham High School in 1948. She held membership in the Bluefield Woman’s Club, Parkview Heights Garden Club, but her most beloved membership was in the Virginia Avenue United Church, where she was a charter member. She loved working with the United Methodist Women, her church sisters. She worked at Leggett in the piece goods department and was credit manager for JC Penney. She was also an avid cake decorator and baked many wedding cakes for couples in the two Virginias. Her biggest joy was baking cakes for family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Alva Elmo Tabor. She was also preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters.
Those left to cherish her memory are a son, Thomas Alva Tabor and wife Susan, and a daughter Katherine Lynn Tabor, three grandsons Andrew, Nikolaus, and Alex, four great-grandchildren, Max, Charlie, Macie and Amyn, all of Stuart, VA. A very special sister-in-law, Mrs. David L. Amburn, of North Tazewell, VA is also left to cherish her memory.
She was blessed to have many wonderful friends that have become family over the years. Special to her was Rose Ann Goddard, of Bluefield, VA and two “extra daughters,” Pam Lester and Brenda Ayers of Richlands, VA. There are many nieces, nephews and greats and grands that she loved very much.
Funeral services will be conducted at Dudley Memorial Mortuary on Friday, October 22, 2021 by the Reverend Larry Ramey and the Reverend Mark Asbury. Visitation will begin at 1:00pm with service at 2:00pm. Burial at Maple Hill Cemetery will immediately follow the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Virginia Avenue United Methodist Church, Bluefield, VA.
