Emily and John first crossed paths close to home in a local pub. They later reconnected while home from college for the summer. The proposal was oh-so-romantic as John organised a private tour of Birr Castle which is a really special place for Emily, she explains: “He got down on one knee in the beautiful Gothic Music Saloon where he presented me with a box of pictures, letters and other memories from our time together. It was so thoughtful and meaningful!”

Hollywood curls, a red lip and a silky satin feather robe – we sense some serious bridal glamour coming on! The beautiful bride showcased a Suzanne Neville long-sleeved gown with a beautiful square neckline and a chic waist belt. She finished her look with a breathtaking veil that added softness to her tailored look.

The overall vibe of the winter wedding day was described as very relaxed. “We wanted an intimate number of guests with a chilled atmosphere where people could mix and mingle, sit by the fireside and chat as well as hear great music and have fun. The theme really was a winter wedding so we picked red and berry tones for the flowers, and bridal party and also worked it into the bridal look,” says Emily.

The ceremony took place in St. Patricks Church, Ballingarry, Co. Tipperary and it was kissed with burgundy touches and twinkling candlelight. Once the newlyweds were pronounced husband and wife, they walked out of the church hand in hand to Elbow’s One Day Like This. They say: ‘We both have always loved this song and would often blast it in the car from our early days together. For us, it filled our hearts with pure joy walking out of the church to our string quartet playing a beautiful cover of it!”

The wedding day aesthetic was inspired by the love of having a small, traditional Irish wedding. They chose a local church close to their family’s hearts and had a beautiful Irish country house as their wedding venue, keeping the music and styling quite traditional and simple throughout. The venue that stole their hearts was the charming Ashley Park House.

“Ashley Park House is a really beautiful venue. When we met the team we knew we were in experienced and dedicated hands. As we were having a winter wedding the indoor spaces were really important to us. The area for the drinks reception inside was so comfortable and cosy for our intimate numbers. We also loved the Pavilion Ballroom. The food has an excellent reputation which absolutely lived up to the hype. We also loved the fact that the venue is on the lake and got some of our favourite photos there and in the lovely gardens,” they say.

They kept the relaxed vibes flowing by allowing their nearest and dearest to enjoy every minute of the day in the idyllic surrounding, with delicious food and atmospheric music. “It was so important to us that everyone enjoyed themselves, so we focused on ensuring we had good music and a nice atmosphere!”

Take a look at that wedding cake! The three-tiered classicly iced perfection sat on a rustic wooden slice and was dressed with beautiful winter florals and berries whilst surrounded by precious photographs. After the cake was cut, the couple took to the dancefloor and shared their first dance to Can’t Take My Eyes Off Of You by Frankie Valli. The Beat Boutique, wedding band and DJ, ensured the guests were on their feet all night long!

Before finishing up this wonderful wedding day, we asked Emily and John for words of wedding advice for those who are wedding planning, they say: “Behind the scenes, we organised the scheduling very carefully to allow us the most important thing of all on the day– time. Time to get ready without stress, time together alone after the church, time to get the pictures we wanted and time to enjoy our drinks reception and enjoy the company of our guests. If you can at all, schedule the day so you aren’t rushing or stressed and so that you can enjoy time with your partner and guests. It helped keep us both so relaxed and we got to savour each part of the day and be present. You only get the day once and it flies by!”
