Emma Watson made a return to the red carpet last night, attending the Earthshot Prize ceremony in London, which was hosted by the Duke of Cambridge and the Royal Foundation. For the occasion – which is a new annual global prize designed to incentivise change and help to repair our planet over the next 10 years – Watson, who is a known advocate for sustainable fashion and was presenting an award at the event, chose an upcycled gown.
The dress was designed and created by Harris Reed, who made the gown with former wedding dresses, which had been donated to Oxfam.

Although the design was custom-made for Watson, the concept was similar to Reed’s spring/summer 2022 collection, whereby the pieces were made almost entirely from secondhand wedding dresses. With these designs, Reed played with a consortium of extravagant fabrics, where they undid seams, meticulously reconstructed garments with Reed’s signature flare and repurposed lace bridal veils and morning jackets.

Watson’s ensemble was made up of a frothy, white, asymmetric top, which featured delicate lace detail at the top and was almost completely backless. She teamed the look with black flared trousers and some beautiful pieces from Reed’s collaboration with jewellery brand Missoma.

Reed took to Instagram to share their excitement for Watson’s look, calling it an “immense honour” to dress the actress.

Watson joined a number of royals at the event, including the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, who also opted for sustainable eveningwear.
William wore an upcycled velvet jacket, while Kate chose to rewear a lilac Alexander McQueen gown she’s been seen in a number of times, rather than choosing something new. She first wore the dress 10 years ago, to a BAFTA black-tie event in the summer of 2011, and just gave it a small update last night in the form of her accessories.
