NORTH BLOOMFIELD — George A. Smith, 87, passed away Friday, Oct. 8, 2021.

He was born Aug. 31, 1934, in Orangeville, the first son of Walter and Hazel Smith.

George graduated from Vernon High School in 1954. George served in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1959, stationed in Fort Knox, Ky.

George and Eleanor married Oct. 7, 1961, in the Hadley, Pa., Church. The couple celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary one day before his passing.

Eleanor and George loved to spend time with their two boys, grandchildren and great-grandson. They also enjoyed camping and traveling together. George liked to tinker with cars and was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather. His family was the pride of his life.

They bought their current home in North Bloomfield in 1962.

George was an active member and regular attendee of the North Bloomfield United Methodist Church, serving in different capacities.

George was a charter member of the North Bloomfield Optimist Club since 1968. George enjoyed participating in the annual spring festival (chicken dinner), the fish fry in the fall each year, and ham and turkey bingo, working alongside his fellow members and friends.

George is survived by his loving wife, Eleanor; sons, Mark (Yvonne) Smith and David (fiancee Diane) Smith; brothers, Allen (Dorothy) and Robert (Debbie) Smith; grandchildren, Marcus (Anthony) Smith and Caitlin (Frank) Moll; great-grandson Frank Joseph Moll VII; sisters-in-law, June and Sherry Smith; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Hazel Smith; his brothers, Charles and Roy Smith; and his stepmother, Pauline Smith.

A funeral service officiated by the Rev. David Miller and the Rev. Vernon Palo will take place noon Thursday, Oct. 14, 2021, at the Paine Funeral Home Inc., 140 E. Main Street, Orwell, OH 44076. Burial and military honors will follow at Brownwood Cemetery, Bloomfield Township.

Friends and family who would like to extend their condolences are invited to calling hours 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2021.
