‘GoT’ Star Jack Gleeson Weds Girlfriend In Small Irish Ceremony

Actor Jack Gleeson, known for his stellar performance as King Joffrey Baratheon in “Game of Thrones,” just walked down the aisle with Róisín O’Mahony. The duo started dating a few years ago and took their vows in a church in The Glen, County Kerry.

While Gleeson has several movie credits, O’Mahony also has a good amount under her belt. The actress has appeared in a number of films like “Jekyll and Hyde” in 2015, “Not a Hero” that same year, and in 2017, “Mild Thing.”

The news was revealed to the public by the church parish priest. The priest described the event as “simple prayerful and dignified” and went on to talk about how authentic Gleeson is in a follow-up interview.

“Game of Thrones” star Gleeson tied the knot in real life with his longtime girlfriend, O’Mahony. The ceremony occurred last Saturday and was held in the Sacred Heart Church located in County Kerry’s The Glen.

The Sacred Heart Church parish priest, Father Pasty Lynch, confirmed the news on Monday via a Twitter post. The post included several picture

s with the newlyweds, one of which showed the three of them posing together. O’Mahony was dressed in a long patterned pastel-colored wedding dress and was holding up a bouquet of flowers.

A second image showed Gleason and his wife posing while smiling at the camera. The wedding guests were seen in the picture’s background, sitting in the pews. Father Lynch captioned the post, “Very simple, prayerful and dignified marriage ceremony for Film Celebrity Jason [Jack] Gleeson and Róisín.”

The parish priest added in a follow-up tweet that the actor was a “very down to earth, simple and relaxed person.”

Father Lynch joined the Irish Independent and shed more light on the wedding. According to him, the ceremony that was held on Saturday was only a “pre-wedding ceremony.” The couple will reportedly conduct the real occasion in England.

The parish priest revealed, “The real ceremony will take place over in England, but the family have been holidaying down here in Ballinskelligs, The Glen, for many years, and they have so many happy memories here.”

He described the Saturday occasion as a “lovely, prayerful, dignified wedding ceremony” and said the “Game of Thrones” actor was so pleased that he contacted him later on. “Jack texted me this morning to say that it was such a wonderful, moving ceremony, and afterward, they went for a meal,” Father Lynch added.

‘There’s Nothing Artificial’ About Jack Gleeson

Further on in the interview, the Sacred Heart Church parish priest explained that from the start of the wedding ceremony, it had a “lovely, relaxed atmosphere.” He continued, “I think it was the sheer simplicity that just touched everyone, and everyone was happy and content.”

Father Lynch described Gleeson as a familiar face in the community and one who didn’t seem “artificial.” He said, “Everyone down here knows Jack, and that shows they’re just part of the whole community. When I met him, it was as if we knew each other all our lives; he’s that kind of person. There’s nothing artificial.”

Gleeson shot to fame as a child star on the HBO hit series “Game of Thrones” in 2011. He played the loathed King Joffrey for four seasons of the show until his character was killed off in 2014. Joffrey was poisoned during the reception of his own wedding ceremony.

He Took A Hiatus From Acting

Not long after his stint with “Game of Thrones” ended, Gleeson revealed that he planned on taking a break from acting. He joined Entertainment Weekly and explained that he had “stopped enjoying it as much as I used to,” hence the hiatus.

Gleeson said, “When you make a living from something, it changes your relationship with it. It’s not like I hate it; it’s just not what I want to do.” He went on to joke that he might be more open to taking on more movie roles in a decade. The 30-year-old said, “When I’m destitute in 10 years’ time, I’ll accept any script!”

Since then, however, the actor has appeared in a number of shows, including “Out of Her Mind,” a BBC Two series. Next year Gleeson will also reportedly be a part of Netflix’s “In the Land of Saints and Sinners” alongside Liam Neeson and Ciarán Hinds.
