Jim And Florence Gonzales Celebrate 66th Wedding Anniversary – Los Alamos Reporter

Mr. and Mrs. Jim Gonzales, Jr. celebrated their 66th Wedding Anniversary Friday, July 23. Jimmy and Florence were married in 1955 in Nambe’s Sacred Heart Church following a courtship that lasted five years.

In December of 1950, while Jim was home on leave from the U.S. Army during the Korean War, he joined up with three other comrades, each of them serving on all four branches of the military, and together, in uniform, they went to a dance held in Pojoaque. Florence at that time was 14 years old and assisting with collection of tickets. Jim spotted her, asked her to dance, and they never left each other’s side for the rest of the enchanting evening. Upon his return to Korea for the remainder of the war, Jim and Florence exchanged letters, many of them kept in a bundle and tied with a ribbon.

In Nambe they raised their children: Donna, Monica, Baby Roberta Ann (1958-1959), Dennis, Carol, Katrina, Kenneth, and Steven. They share 20 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. They continue to set examples of faith, integrity, generosity, charity, and the importance of family bonds.
