Keanu Reeves Owns The Matrix’s Original Red Pill and John Wick’s Wedding Ring

The Matrix and John Wick star Keanu Reeves has revealed which props from the fan-favorite films he kept after their respective productions had wrapped.

The beloved actor recently did an Ask Me Anything on Reddit, responding to several fan questions about his nearly 40-year career in the acting industry. After being asked if he had ever stolen anything from a film set, Reeves responded that while he had never “stolen” any props, he did own John Wick’s watch and wedding ring as well as “the first red pill that the Wachowski’s ever gave me” and “a sword from 47 Ronin.”

The red pill is an important device in the Wachowskis’ science fiction franchise The Matrix, allowing Reeves’ computer hacker Neo in the first film to be located and “unplugged” from the Matrix’s simulated reality. The Matrix rejuvenated Reeves’ career after a string of box office misfires in the 1990s. Following the critical and commercial success of the 1999 film, Reeves reprised the role of Neo in three follow-ups: The Matrix Reloaded, The Matrix Revolutions (both 2003) and The Matrix Resurrections (2021).

John Wick Is Back

Similar to The Matrix, 2014’s John Wick served as a comeback for Reeves, with the film exceeding box office expectations and launching a multimedia action franchise. After starring in John Wick: Chapter 2 (2017) and John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum (2019), Reeves is back in the forthcoming Chapter 4, which finds his titular assassin taking on the High Table — a council of twelve crime lords that govern the underworld’s most powerful criminal organizations. While the John Wick franchise is not part of The Matrix universe, the two series do share some key members of talent, with John Wick director Chad Stahelski previously serving as Reeves’ stunt double in the first Matrix film as well as the Martial Arts Stunt Coordinator on the 2003 sequels. Laurence Fishburne, who played Morpheus in The Matrix, also stars in the John Wick franchise as the Bowery King.

John Wick: Chapter 4 is currently tracking to make between $60 and $70 million in its opening weekend at the domestic box office. If that number holds, the film will break Chapter 3’s $56.8 million opening to become the largest domestic debut ever for the John Wick franchise.

Besides Reeves and Fishburne, Chapter 4 stars several high-profile actors including Bill Skarsgård as The Marquis de Gramont, Ian McShane as Winston, Donnie Yen as Caine, Hiroyuki Sanada as Shimazu, Lance Reddick as Charon, Scott Adkins as Killa, Clancy Brown as The Harbinger, Shamier Anderson as The Tracker, George Georgiou as The Elder (replacing Saïd Taghmaoui in the role), Rina Sawayama as Akira and Natalia Tena in an undisclosed role.

John Wick: Chapter 4 opens in theaters on March 24.
