Kevin & Kerianne’s Wedding Shoot in the Mourne Mountains

Crisp September sunshine peeked through for Kevin and Kerianne’s charming northern Ireland wedding day, which embraced the beautiful mountains of Co. Down and gave a nod to their shared love of Canada. Photography duo The Magills joined them in the clouds to capture the most incredible wedding portraits, and let’s just say the results are magical! Featuring black-tie elegance, jewel tones and an adorable dog that never left our couple’s side. Pinterest boards at the ready…

Our real wedding couple celebrated becoming husband and wife on their ninth anniversary! Kevin and Kerianne first crossed paths at The Fiddler’s Green Festival in Rostrevor, Co. Down – thanks to a helping hand from Kerianne’s sister Colleen who played the role of Cupid! “It all started with a belated birthday text, and Kevin has been keeping up the ‘belated’ status ever since,” laughs Kerianne.

During a trip to the Canadian snow-peaked mountains in Whistler, Kevin found the perfect moment to ask Kerianne the magic question at the luxurious Fairmont Hotel. “We lived in Canada for two years and took a trip to for his 30th Birthday. It was beautiful! We had initially planned to go for a hike, but the trails were closed as a grizzly bear had been spotted, so we took an early dinner and he proposed shortly after with my granny’s Claddagh ring,” Kerianne recalls.

They chose to tie the knot in their hometown of Co. Down with 160 of the couple’s nearest and dearest. They chose rich burgundy tones and rustic wooden elements with an abundance of full foliage for the September celebration. The bridesmaids wowed in plush velvet emerald green off-the-shoulder gowns that complemented the shades within the bouquets to seasonal perfection!

The wedding venue, The Whistledown, in Newry, held significant memories for them throughout the years so it was only fitting they host their marriage celebration there too! “It’s a place where we celebrate a lot of our milestones; birthdays, christenings, graduations, etc. So it only felt right to spend our special day here. It was also ideal for all our local families as the journey was short!”

“Kevin Cole from Fearon’s Pub and Berni Lively from The Whistledown ensured it was a day full of craic and stories. We wanted to bring in some elements of Canada, with a strong Irish theme and this was achieved through the music, flowers and styling!” they add.

Kevin and Kerianne wanted to infuse some of their Canadian past into their wedding day, and what better way to do so than creating a mountain wedding shoot? They explain: “elopements on mountain peaks are popular, so we wanted to bring that theme into our wedding. We put this to Leanne our photographer, who was super keen and gave us a choice of stunning peaks in the Mourne Mountains where the sunset is unmissable.” Instead of taking time on their wedding day, they instead got suited and booted the Monday after and hiked up Slieve Muck to catch the most breathtaking sunset. “It really lived up to the name, Leanne and Johnny’s shots and videos from that day are amazing!”

We can’t let this day go by without mentioning the adorable and fluffy guest of honour gracing all the photos! Murphy, Kevin and Kerianne’s pup, was of course a part of the wedding day! “Murphy was very excited to see us, Amanda from Posh Pets had a little pink collar and matching lead on her and it was very cute. Murphy also had the best time on her holidays when we were on our honeymoon. Amanda spoilt her so much, she hardly wanted to come home!” says Kerianne. Kerianne’s cousin Shauna engraved the phrase ‘You and Me Kid’ onto the velvet ribbon attached to her bridal bouquet and it meant a lot to her. “It was a very personnel touch, and it turned out beautiful.”

Once the sun set on the mountain shoot, it was time to pack the bags and jet off on the honeymoon! The couple chose Greece where they stayed at the five-star Mayia Resort in Rhodes. “It was stunning, we went through Indulgence escapes with Jet 2 Holidays, and they couldn’t do enough for us. Fast track, free drinks on the plane and private transfers and gifts were all included!”
