Korean actor-singer Kim Hyun-joong announced during his concert yesterday (27 February) that he is getting married to his non-celebrity girlfriend.

“I’m not sure how to say this. I have decided to spend the rest of my life with someone who has stayed by my side through my most difficult and exhausting time,” he said.

The Boys Over Flowers star added that he was grateful to his fans for their “infinite love and support” during his darkest and most difficult days, and felt that he was obliged to share the news with his fans in person, rather than just through printed or written words.

Korean news portal TV Daily reported that the couple will not be holding a wedding due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and described the couple as “best friends” who have known each other very well and for a long time.

Kim’s agency has also released a statement to confirm the marriage news, saying, “Since his future spouse is not a celebrity, we have been cautious in releasing the news. We ask for people’s understanding and also to refrain from excessive speculation. Their precious relationship began during a difficult time. They are now taking their cautious first step towards their shared life together. We ask for everyone’s warm support for the couple. Kim Hyun-joong plans to continue to repay the support he’s been given with good music and various promotions.”

Kim started in the entertainment industry as a member of the boy band SS501, and is best known for his roles in the Korean adaptations of Boys Over Flowers (2009) and Playful Kiss (2010). He established his solo singing career in 2011.
