Markle’s rejection of King Charles’ offer on her wedding day

There are several stories during the lead-up to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s wedding in 2018. These included family rows, a private dressing down from the late Queen Elizabeth to Harry, and Markle‘s constant dissatisfaction with several proposed plans.

However, the latest story to come to light was how Charles offered to walk Markle down the aisle on her wedding day.

Markle reply shocked future king

While most of the headlines were focused on how Thomas Markle, Meghan‘s father, would be unable to attend the event due to his poor health, behind the scenes, Charles made a kind offer to walk Markle down the aisle in his absence.

However, Charles was left shocked by the now princess’s reply.

According to royal biographer Robert Hardman, Markle wanted the now king to meet her halfway.

“The reply, according to one friend, was not quite what he was expecting: ‘Can we meet halfway?'” Hardman wrote in the Daily Mail.

“Here was an indicator that this was no blushing bride, but a confident, independent woman determined to make a grand entrance on her own.”

Prince Harry commended his dad

The Prince of Sussex praised his father for stepping in.

“I asked him to and I think he knew it was coming and he immediately said ‘Yes, of course, I’ll do whatever Meghan needs, and I’m here to support you” Harry said in a documentary marking Charles‘ 70th birthday.

“For him that’s a fantastic opportunity to step up and be that support, and you know he’s our father so of course he’s going to be there for us. I was very grateful for him to be able to do that.”
