Married At First Sight bride Evelyn Ellis has defended her ‘husband’ Rupert Bugden after his awkward appearance during their wedding on the show on Monday.

Appearing on Today Extra on Tuesday, Evelyn, 26, said she ‘doesn’t blame him for being that nervous’.

At the wedding, he dropped the rings and struggled to read his vows because he was so nervous and awkward.

But Evelyn admitted that Rupert, 27, ‘comes out of his shell’ throughout the rest of the series, which is yet to air.

‘I can say he does come out of his shell and people need to remember that the wedding is a lot, there’s a lot of people there and if you’re not strong at public speaking, I don’t blame him for being that nervous,’ she said.

‘I think it shows his authenticity, there’s no façade and we were both vulnerable and I appreciate that,’ she said.

She said at first she was ‘worried’ about how quiet he was, but they’ve since gotten to know each other.

‘He’s dropped the ring!’ one guest was heard laughing.

Later, model and marketing director Evelyn, 26, smiled at her groom as he struggled to read his vows.

A nervous Rupert could barely get through his speech, as his bride patiently watched on.

When it came time to exchange rings, Rupert struggled to find the ring in his blazer pocket. Evelyn later complained: ‘He had one job!’
