Maverick Players comedy troupe to perform “Wedding Secrets”

The Maverick Players present “Wedding Secrets” for two weekends at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Hall, 409 Veterans Airpark Lane.

Opening night is Friday.

In describing “Wedding Secrets,” the Maverick Players offered the following:

“It is the day before the celebration where the families of the bride and groom meet for the first time at the home of the groom. An eccentric uncle lives in the basement. Awkwardness ensues when it is revealed that every member of the wedding party is hiding a secret. This award-winning comedy, by nationally known playwright and screenwriter Joe Starzyk, is returning to Midland after many accolades and awards for this play.

“The script of ‘Wedding Secrets’ was first debuted by director Andy Salcedo in a reader’s theatre competition in 2012 at Midland Community Theatre. The comedy won first place. It went on to be presented in full performance at MCT (also directed by Salcedo) and in various theatres across the country, as well as internationally.”

The cast, according to the Maverick Players, includes: Craig Leoffler as the groom, his parents: (Jane Moore and Daryll  Bales), his uncle (Buddy Fazzio), the bride (Katie Bales), and the bride’s parents (Kim Blackketter and Stretch Werner). In addition, are the bride’s teenage sister, (Vivian Willoughby), the bride’s aunt (Charlotte Larson), the teenage boy next door (Garrett Dalton), and (Cincy Oglesby) as various “ladies of the evening.”

The Maverick Players’ box office is accepting reservations at 432-260-0044. Tickets are $10 per person. Opening night includes a free wine, beer and cheese reception at 6:45 p.m. prior to curtain time at 7:30 p.m. Performances continue with a 2:30 p.m. matinee Sunday, a 7:30 p.m. show Monday and 7:30 p.m. shows Aug. 4-6.
