Newlyweds Charge Guests For Wedding Cake and I’m Not Mad At It

When it’s your wedding, you get to make the rules, but one bride and groom have taken that to an extreme. In a post on Reddit’s “Wedding Shaming” section, a guest from their wedding shares the ridiculous text he got from the bride. He explains that at the event, guests were told they had to pay $5 for their piece of wedding cake and if you think that’s bad, hang on.

“I paid for the first slice after it was announced on the day that we’d be helping pay for their cake,” he explains. He also posts a photo of the text he got from the bride the next day that doubles down on the awkwardness. “Hey so we were just looking at the CCTV and saw that you had two pieces of the wedding cake,” her text reads. “We announced that each guest must pay per slice and noticed that you only paid for the one.” It concludes with asking him to send the extra $5 ASAP.

And even worse? The bride sent him an actual video from the reception to back up her cake shakedown.

  • The guest says both the groom and best man mentioned the cake fee in their speeches. He thought it was a joke until people in the cake line came back to their table to grab cash!
  • There was even a credit card reader there for guests to pay and they were taking names for tabs, too.
  • Naturally, Redditors were just as appalled as he was, calling the cake fee “tacky.”

I gotta be honest. I think charging for the wedding cake is like giving a gift. Forget bringing an envelope full of money, just charge your guests for the food! haha.
