Orange And Purple Wedding With An Ostrich Feather Wedding Dress ⋆ Ruffled

Nothing could have prepared us for the level of fabulousness this orange purple wedding has brought to the table…literally! Tara Skinner Events interpreted the jubliant soul of the event through a daring palette of secondary colors, weaving baby’s breath dyed in lavender hues across an orange ikat table linen bedecked with glass pearl-studded dinnerware and calligraphed oranges acting as place cards. The whole thing is a riot of beauty. But Harvey Designs didn’t stop at the dyed textural base – the table arrangements were imbued with vivid roses, allium and sweet pea to boot! Don’t even get us started on the tall centerpieces at the round tables, which tower with glimmering metallic dyed fronds to echo the actual Palmetto palms surrounding the Savannah River adjacent reception. The bride stunned in a custom periwinkle wedding gown with an ostrich feather halter neck that’s giving us some serious Keira Knightley à la Love Actually vibes. Izzy + Co seamlessly captured the joyful spirit of the day in her visual narrative of the Lowcountry setting, the vivacious designs and all the sweet nothings in between. Scroll on to see why we adore this orange and purple wedding bordering South Carolina so much.

From the Photographer, Izzy + Co: Inspired by the vibrancy of Talavera tile, the magic of Georgia’s low-country, and the playfulness of a good fruit motif (oranges and kumquats, in this case), designer and bride Alex wanted to host an out-of-the box event that would wow guests with a thoughtful, one-of-a-kind details and an eccentrically fresh color palette of pumpkin, lavender, and blueberry. Her goal: create a wedding aesthetic that people had never seen before.

Alex, who received her Master’s from the Savannah College of Art and Design, was excited to bring family and friends to the city that she credits for her creative inspiration and the place where she and her groom, Jordan, fell in love. Alex worked with Nina Raynor boutique for her day-of ensembles. First, a custom wedding dress with a subtle peplum and dramatic feather collar, a project on which she was thrilled to collaborate with designer Lourdes Chavez. She then changed into a red, bespoke show-stopper gown for dancing. Commissioned save-the-dates set the tone for the February event, with whimsical watercolors capturing the iconic Savannah riverfront views that guests would enjoy at the reception. The orange Talavera invitation suite, day-of paper products, and signage matched a custom-made Talavera dance floor and tent fabrics. After being entertained by Savannah’s best celebrity impersonators during cocktail hour, guests found their seats with hand-painted Talavera tiles. They then were delighted to find their names calligraphed on individual oranges with a burst of florals nestled into each – a twist on traditional place cards. Alex and her mom carefully curated three themed menus for dinner: an Italian menu to reflect family roots, a Southern menu to provide a taste of Savannah, and a coastal menu as a nod to the beloved home of the bride’s parents. In between the main dining area and the dancefloor, guests passed through an orange dreamscape of whimsical custom cakes and desserts, giving another unexpected layer to the client experience.

Could these cakes possibly be any more animated?! 70’s shag carpet vibes, bird’s of paradise swirls, splattered terra cotta with marbled balloon accents… the creativity of this orange and purple wedding is truly limitless! We shouldn’t be surprised. Vanilla + The Bean is a pastry genius after all. We still have to fan ourselves whenver we see the concrete textured cake she prepared for a gilded countryside inspiration shoot in Charleston a few years back. Très chic. Très fun. We hope you enjoyed this real wedding masterclass on how you can blend a tonge-in-cheek traditional ceremony with a more whimsical celebration to follow. Alex & Jordan’s day was a picture of stylish sophistication, and we applaud them for their uncompromising committment to revel in their story, their way. We wish you two every happiness!
