Orville A. Westphal

CASPIAN — Orville A. Westphal, 93, of Caspian, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 6, 2022.

He was born on April 10, 1928, in Caspian, the son of the late Albert and Edith (Nystrom) Westphal. He attended the Caspian and Stambaugh Schools, graduating from Stambaugh High School with the Class of 1946. He was a proud United States Army Veteran.

Orville married the former Elizabeth LaForais on June 26, 1964, and Elizabeth preceded him in death in 1973. On Sept. 13, 1975, Orville married Rhoda Hardy Aho and the couple made their home in Caspian. They celebrated their 37th wedding anniversary in 2012, before Rhoda preceded him in death on Oct. 9 of that year.

Orville worked for D.A. MacPHerson for 30 years. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Iron River. Orville enjoyed gardening, flowers, and considered himself a “Jack of all trades.”

He is survived by his stepchildren, Keith (Jana) Aho of Iron River and Susan Dennis of Gladstone; brothers, Gary (Marilyn) Westphal of Caspian and Glen (Anita) Westphal of Oconto Falls, Wis; sisters-in-law, Diana Westphal and Barbara Westphal, both of Iron River; two step grandchildren; nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

In addition to his parents and both wives, he was also preceded in death by his brothers, Bruce, Merle, David, Jack, Ronald, and Ray and his sisters, Betty Olsen, June Rooney, and infant sister, Carol.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Interment will be in Stambaugh Cemetery, Iron River. The West Side Veterans will accord Military Rites at the graveside.
