Patricia “Pat” Evelyn Bates, 91, of Fairfield, passed away surrounded by her family Friday, December 16, 2022, at her home.

There will be an open visitation from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 21, 2022, at Behner Funeral Home. The family will not be present.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, December 22, 2022, at Behner Funeral Home, with Pastor Danny Cary and Chaplain Gordon Hawkins officiating. Burial will follow the service in Memorial Lawn Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Noah’s Ark or EveryStep Hospice. Cards may be mailed to Paula Adam, 2257 Hwy 1, Fairfield, IA 52556.

Pat was born May 11, 1931, in Libertyville, to Hershel “Boots” Arthur and Letha Lorraine (Goodell) Courtney. She married Paul Eugene Bates on November 27, 1949. They were blessed with 72 years of marriage before he passed away on May 25, 2022.

For a living, Pat cleaned houses and baked and decorated birthday and wedding cakes. She was an excellent cook and was known for her chocolate chip cookies. She liked being outside working in her flower bed, when her health allowed or visiting with neighbors on the patio. Paul and Pat were avid dancers, loved playing cards & wintered in Texas 22 years. Most important was spending time with her family and attending her grandkids and great grandkids activities. Pat was a member of First Christian Church and attended SLS (Senior Life Solutions)

Pat will be missed by her two daughters, Brenda (Darrel) Bisgard and Paula (Mike) Adam, both of Fairfield; 9 grandchildren, Renee (Mike) Telfer, Troy (Angie) Bisgard, Nathan Roland, Jeremy (Kelsie) Roland, Charissa (Corey) Hickenbottom, Brian (Tracy) Adam, Aaron (Shelby) Adam, Angie (Brock) Haines and Briale Kessel (Honorary grandchild); 15 great-grandchildren; and beloved cat, Albi.

Pat was preceded in death by her parents,” Boots” and Letha; husband, Paul; and two sisters, Dorothy and Maxine.
