Robert A. Squires Sr., 76, of Coralville, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2022, at University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics.

Visitation will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 228 E. Jefferson St., in Iowa City. The funeral Mass will begin at 3 p.m. (The Mass will be livestreamed. To watch the livestream, visit the “IC Saint Mary Parish” YouTube channel). Burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 7, at Chapel Hill Memorial Park Cemetery in Greenfield, Wis. Instead of flowers and plants, the family suggest memorials to The Bob Squires Memorial Fund. Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service in Iowa City is handling local arrangements. Arrangements in Wisconsin are with Max A. Sass & Sons Funeral Home in Greenfield, Wis.

Born Oct. 11, 1945, in Pittsburgh, Pa., the son of Stanley and Anna (Kondrat) Squires, Bob grew up in Duquesne and graduated from Duquesne High School. He later received a bachelors of business degree from San Diego State University in 1973.

Bob served in the U.S. Navy from 1965 to 1969 during the Vietnam War. He then transferred to the Naval Reserves until 1971. He met Evelyn “Sue” Burgh and the couple married Dec. 4, 1966, in San Diego. The couple just celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary.

Following Bob’s tour of duty in the Navy, he worked his way up to executive level management through various computer software design and engineering firms. He also was honored to work with the Knights of Columbus Insurance.

Survivors include his wife, Sue; daughter, Beth Squires of Iowa City; son, Ryan Squires (Kate) of North Liberty; grandchildren, Joel Bender, Lilly Bender, Emily Bender and Michael Bender; brother, Glade (Roni) Squires of Downingtown, Pa.; sister, Linda Popowitz (Jeff) of Atlanta, Ga.; daughter-in-law, Karen Squires of Stoddard, Wis.; and several nieces and nephews.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents and son, Robert “Rob” Squires Jr., in 2014.
