Robert E. Crookston
59, Johnstown, died March 8, 2022. Son of Robert F. and Mildred E. (Marsh) Crookston, born in Johnstown on July 19, 1962, his parents’ twenty-first wedding anniversary day. Preceded in death by parents, sister Mary Valente, (Robert), uncle, George “Bernie” (Amelia “Millie”); cousin, Terrance “Terry,” and brother-in-law Edwin Fields. Survived by brothers, Father James, Johnstown; and John (Carol), Milton, GA; sisters Cynthia Fields, West Hollywood, CA; Theresa, Phoenix, AZ; and Susan, Denver, CO. Also survived by a cousin, Dennis (Judy), nieces and nephews, Pastor Chris Valente (Becky); Allyson Toro (Lee); Terri O’Leary (David); Donna Nemetz Palko – Terrance’s wife; Isaac Ocean and Elizabeth (Alex) Hait – Carol and John’s children.
Robert was an over-the-road driver for Western Express. His alternate set of wheels were his own custom-designed bicycles. His love of road began with a cross-country trek with Jim to Alaska for his sixteenth birthday. He enjoyed fishing in the Que and hiking the Laurel Highlands Trail. The family will receive friends at the Picking-Treece-Bennett Mortuary on Wednesday, March 16, 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Father Jim and the priests of the Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown will celebrate a Mass of Christian burial at St. John Gualbert Cathedral the same afternoon at 1:30 PM. Father Clement Gardner will be the homilist. Interment Richland Cemetery.
