Royal wedding clash as Kate and William beat Meghan and Harry to take crown | Royal | News

The wedding of Kate and Prince William has topped the charts after an analysis of Google search data. A study has compared how many searches for “Royal wedding” were completed in the months of each of the most recent nuptials of prominent members of the Firm.

And it shows the searches for these two words combined spiked the most in April 2011, when Kate and Prince William tied the knot.

Searches for “royal wedding” spiked to 1487 percent the average volume on the month the Cambridges got married.

This is a 203 percent bigger spike in searches when compared to the one witnessed in May 2018, when Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, and Prince Harry tied the knot.

The increase in searches during the month of the Sussexes’ wedding was 1294 percent.

A spokesperson for creative resource Design Bundles, which conducted the study, acknowledged both the Cambridges and the Sussexes’ wedding generated a lot of searches and attention.

However, they added Kate and William’s wedding topped the charts because of their future roles.

They said: “All Royal weddings are sumptuous and stunning affairs, with the mystery and magic of the monarchy on full display for the public to enjoy.

“The Royal nuptials of Prince William and Kate Middleton in 2011 and Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in 2018 stand out as two of the most influential weddings of all time, but the fact that Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding is ultimately more popular shows that – despite the enduring fascination of the world with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle – our focus is ultimately on those who will inherit the crown and one day become King and Queen of England”.

The analysis also considered three more weddings.

Another nuptial generating a considerable increase in Google searches of the words “Royal wedding” was the one of Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall.

In April 2005, when the pair tied the knot, there was a 1233 percent increase in searches.

Two more weddings were considered for this study.

The nuptial of Princess Beatrice and Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi generated a 196 percent increase in searches of “Royal wedding” through the month of July 2020.

This happened despite the couple keeping news of their socially distanced and private wedding ceremony a secret until its completion.

Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank, who married in October 2018 at the same venue of Meghan and Harry – St George’s Chapel in Windsor – generated with their wedding a 109 percent increase.

This study only considered how influential a wedding could be based on the internet searches, not on the importance of the ceremony itself, ruling out nuptials like the one of the Queen and Prince Philip which took place decades before the arrival of the world wide web.

Kate and Prince William got married at Westminster Abbey during a fairytale ceremony, which ended with their first iconic kiss exchanged on the balcony of Buckingham Palace.

Earlier this year, the couple celebrated their decade together by sharing two new portraits.

They also released a short film on their social media in which they were captured playing with their beloved three children – George, Charlotte and Louis.

Meghan and Prince Harry tied the knot three years ago in Windsor, where well-wishers from around the world gathered to catch a glimpse of the couple.

The Duke and Duchess, who initially lived at Nottingham Cottage on the grounds of Kensington Palace, moved to Frogmore Cottage in the spring of 2019, ahead of the birth of their first son Archie Harrison.

At the end of March 2020, they relocated to California, just days before they officially stepped down as senior royals.
