The term “shotgun wedding” refers to a marriage ceremony that was put together quickly, typically because the bride was pregnant. The idea is that the groom is held at gunpoint to do the right thing and marry the woman he knocked up. However, the phrase takes on a drastically different meaning for the upcoming film.
There’s no word if Lopez’s character will be pregnant for the film, but there will certainly be plenty of guns, as one can surmise from the following plot description from Variety. “Darcy (Lopez) and Tom (Duhamel) gather their families for a destination wedding,” the report starts. “But as the couple begins to get cold feet, the entire wedding party is taken hostage, giving a new meaning to the phrase ’til death do us part.'”
It sounds like the film will combine both rom-com and action elements for a one-of-a-kind adventure, and unless things change, you can check it out once it drops on June 29, 2022.
