Taylor Jenkins Reid Is Also The Mastermind Behind Daisy Jones and the Six

The announcement of Sony’s acquisition of My Ex-Friend’s Wedding comes on the same day as the premiere of another Taylor Jenkins Reid project. Though Daisy Jones and the Six was adapted for television by frequent partners Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber, the original story comes from the eponymous novel by Reid. The acclaimed 2019 novel is just one of several book adaptations that will come from Reid over the next few years with The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo heading to Netflix and Malibu Rising’s development currently in the works.

In 2019, Reid told the story of how Daisy Jones and the Six came to be for Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine Book Club. As written by Reid in the article, the story drew inspiration from the renowned rock band, Fleetwood Mac.

“Two years ago, when I decided I wanted to write a book about rock ‘n’ roll, I kept coming back to that moment when Lindsey watched Stevie sing Landslide. How it looked so much like two people in love. And yet, we’ll never truly know what lived between them. I wanted to write a story about that, about how the lines between real life and performance can get blurred, about how singing about old wounds might keep them fresh. Even after copious amounts of research about Fleetwood Mac and a host of other duos and bands, I’m still taken with that moment between them. I can’t help but marvel at the idea that, despite everything they’d been through, Stevie and Lindsey still loved each other then. Or how, despite what it looked like to us all, they no longer did. I know I’ll never know the answer. And I suppose, if I’m being realistic, there isn’t one.”
