Vanderpump Rules star Tom Schwartz has kept his wedding ring on, despite Katie Maloney filing for divorce. He’s finally decided it was time to let go.
Vanderpump Rules star Tom Schwartz has kept his ring on since announcing his divorce with Katie Maloney, but he recently shared that he finally let go of his wedding ring. Tom and Katie shocked fans when they decided to separate after 12 years as a couple. The Vanderpump Rules duo got married in 2016 but had another ceremony in 2019 after finding out that their first marriage wasn’t official due to missing paperwork. Although their relationship wasn’t perfect and Katie and Tom often bickered, Vanderpump Rules fans thought they would stay together forever.
Katie shared that she was the one who decided to end things with her long-time partner and wrote a heartfelt statement on Instagram announcing their separation. She said there wasn’t a catalyst for the breakup, but she increasingly felt unhappy until she couldn’t ignore her feelings any longer. Many Vanderpump Rules fans felt that Tom often didn’t have Katie’s back and sided with his friend and business partner Tom Sandoval over her. During Vanderpump Rules season 9, viewers watched as Tom put Katie’s dream of opening up a sandwich shop aside as he focused on building another bar with Sandoval.

Following Tom and Katie’s divorce announcement, Tom was spotted still wearing his wedding ring. He shared that he wasn’t being “clingy,” but he felt “naked” without it. However, a month after Katie filed for divorce, Tom finally removed his ring. He told Page Six, “I’ve been wearing it for the past few months, but I just woke up one day and I was like, ‘Maybe it’s time to stop wearing it out of respect for Katie.’” Tom added that there was no catalyst for him to take off the Kyle Chan ring but that he wanted to keep wearing it because it was beautiful and he had a “great love and admiration” for Katie.
Tom shared that he and Katie were handling the transition from being married to being separated well and that his soon-to-be ex-wife was “accommodating” of his needs. He gushed that he was still madly in love with her and always will be. Katie shared with Page Six that she and Tom will “always have each other’s backs,” even though they are no longer a couple. She was also understanding of Tom’s reluctance to part with his wedding ring, saying that they needed to take time to figure things out one step at a time.
It looks as if Tom and Katie are trying to separate as amicably as possible and may still remain friends. She has shared that she is willing to dip her toes in the dating pool but isn’t looking for anything serious. Tom, on the other hand, confessed that he was terrified of dating again and will most likely be a hermit for a while. Although the Vanderpump Rules stars had a roller coaster relationship, fans are happy to see them handling their divorce peacefully.
