Originally from the Congo and orphaned at a young age, she faced a long road with much adversity to get to where she is today.
Taught to sew by nuns at an orphanage in Kenya when she was just nine, a skill she excelled at, it quickly became a lifelong passion.
Arriving in the U.S. through the United Nations in 2011 and spending time within foster care until she came of age, Bajinya’s story is inspirational. Through her efforts and some help along the way, she was able to bring her sister and brother to the U.S. as well.
Without patterns, Bajinya designs, sketches, and crafts each of her beautifully unique fashions from customers’ exact measurements.
“Back in my country you don’t go to a store to buy a dress, you go to a tailor,” Bajinya said. “It’s something in America that we don’t have. It’s something people need to be used to, not just a famous person. Everyone should have access to custom dresses.”
To date, she has designed garments for the likes of former Miss Washington and State Senator, Twina Nobles.
This past May with only two weeks to prepare, Bajinya showed twelve of her original designs during Africa Fashion Week Seattle in Redmond.
