Unwilling to attend son’s wedding, man stabs wife 15 times to death | Nagpur News

Nagpur: Ramdas Borikar, 60, who did not want to attend his son’s marriage ceremony, stabbed his 52-year-old wife Chhaya to death at Dhiwar Mohalla in Old Mangalwadi, early Saturday morning. He then surrendered at Lakadganj police station.
The enraged Borikar stabbed Chhaya almost 15 times on the head, face and rest of the body as she was insisting that he attend their son’s marriage.
Though some relatives stay in the vicinity, Chhaya could not be rescued as the noises of scuffle and her cries for help were buried amid the ruckus created by stray monkeys on the tin sheds of the shanties. Ramdas used to torture Chhaya in the past too. After their children had grown up, they had started confronting Ramdas, post which he started staying separately, said a family source.
Blood gushing in front of the house made some neighbours and relatives suspicious. As they went inside, an injured Chhaya is learnt to have narrated them her plight, naming her husband as the assailant.
Since 2017, Ramdas was living in a building somewhat far from his old house, which also housed the family-owned book binding business that his elder son Satish took over. It was Satish’s marriage which was scheduled to be held on June 9. The family had begun preparation for the marriage.
A family source said Satish had requested his father to attend the marriage. Ramdas had refused. As the marriage ceremonies were set to kick off, Chhaya is learnt to have tried to convince her husband. “Chhaya was out to buy milk. On the way, she went to Ramdas’ place to speak to him for attending the marriage. The discussion went horribly wrong as Ramdas started stabbing her,” said the family source.
The family source said some relatives alerted the cops at Lakadganj police station. Ramdas too landed up at the police station simultaneously. An offence was registered against the 60-year-old for murder.
