UWS Nuggets: Produce For Seniors, Pot Talks, Ramen Expansion, Lincoln Center Wedding

Here are some bite-sized bits of news for Upper West Siders.

As part of its Summer For The City Series, Lincoln Center is hosting an event for newlyweds whose wedding plans were ruined by the pandemic. “Celebrate Love: A (Re)Wedding” will take place on Sunday, July 10 at 5:30pm, with a celebration at Damrosch Park and a reception at Josie Robertson Plaza (now The Oasis, a giant dance floor). For more details, click here. And, here’s more info about the summer series.

The office of Council Member Gale Brewer has announced the return of the Fresh Food For Seniors Program, now in its 10th year. Participating seniors are eligible for $10 bags of produce, which are worth at least $15. Produce comes from NY and NJ farms and is ordered by GrowNYC. To get your bag, just pay $10 cash “in advance on the ‘Pickup Thursday’ the week or so before you want a bag of produce at our prime pickup site, Goddard Riverside Older Adult Center, between 1 – 3 pm.” Goddard Riverside Older Adult Center is located at 593 Columbus Ave at 88th Street. Here is a PDF with all the info.

We don’t know where it will be (or when it will happen), but Kyuramen is planning to open a location on the Upper West Side. New York Business Journal covered the ramen spot’s NYC expansion, with its last opening in Long Island City. The ramen chain has 125 locations around the world, according to NYBJ, with additional Queens locations in Bayside and Flushing; a Manhattan spot in Union Square; and a Park Slope, Brooklyn outpost. In addition to its 9 ramen options — “[made with] carefully crafted white, thick, fresh and fragrant soup bases [and] served with a fresh Japanese-style pork roast, a 7 minute boiled egg, and a pair of chopped green onions” — Kyuramen’s menu features some interesting items like purple sweet potato fries, Japanese pancake balls filled with octopus, and an entire category of “rice & ramen burgers.” As of writing, the restaurant’s website just lists the “Upper West Side” as a location “coming soon.” We’ve reached out to Kyuramen for more info.

On Wednesday, June 22 at 6:30pm, the UWS Coalition of Block Associations & Community Groups is hosting a forum with guests from the NYS Office of Cannabis Management. The topic of discussion will be the soon-to-sprout retail presence of cannabis businesses around the city and state. The forum will stream on Youtube. If you have questions you’d like addressed during the discussion, please submit them to upperwestsidecoalition@gmail.com.
