Kozhikode: Weddings are occasions of joy and belonging. However, one such event turned appalling in Kerala’s Kozhikode district on Monday when two parties first quarreled and then engaged each other physically. A viral video on the internet showed the groom’s camp engaged in a fiery fistfight with the family of the bride. Scared people scattered all around while some others tried to pacify the angry men from getting into further engagements, the video showed.
A bunch people from the groom’s side burst crackers as the party entered the groom’s house in Meppayyur town of Kozhikode. Some of the hosts didn’t like it and claimed the sudden bursting, sans any warnings, scared people and created panic around guests.
The men of the family raised their displeasure with the groom’s friends and it wasn’t well received. An argument broke out between the two groups, which later escalated into a brawl, local media reports said.
The fight got so intense that locals had to interfere to separate the two groups. Visuals from the viral video showed people beating up each other and furious youngsters being pushed out of the house to avoid further face-offs.
However, the police didn’t register a case as both the families gave in writing that they don’t intend to file complaints, reports said.
In a similar incident last year, two groups fought during a wedding feast in Kerala’s capital city. No less than 30 people, including the bride’s father, were hurt in the incident that happened in Balaramapuram of Thiruvananthapuram.
A neighbour of the bride’s family arrived at the auditorium where the family was holding a reception ahead of the wedding. The youngster and his family were not invited to the function as he was arrested by the police before for assaulting the bride’s brother.
However, the man showed up at the venue and offered money to the family as a wedding gift. This was not well received by her father, who disagreed to accept it. An argument over the matter soon escalated into a huge fight, the news report said. The neighbour who came uninvited teamed up with his friends against the men at the ceremony.
