A Cape Town couple who went to Home Affairs to get married was surprised when they encountered protesters standing outside as they exited.
Luckily for them, the protestors responded with kindness and celebrated the couple by signing “umakoti nge wethu (the bride is ours)”, a popular South African wedding song.
The couple went to home Affairs on Monday, unaware that a strike was planned.

In a video shared on social media, the bride and groom are seen standing in their wedding clothes while the protesters surround them while singing.
According to online reports, the acting Public Service and Administration (DPSA) Minister Thulas Nxesi said in a virtual media briefing on Monday that the strike was unlawful.
Nxesi said that employees participating in an unlawful strike would be subject to the no-work, no-pay principle.

“We have just received a court judgment that has dismissed Nehawu’s appeal of the interdict handed out on Saturday. This further confirms our view that the actions of those striking today are illegal,’’ he said.
