Blush Tones & Irish Summer Sunshine: Megan & Ryan’s Weddiing

On a joyously sunny day in Co. Derry, Megan and Ryan celebrated their chilled-out, summer wedding day at Ballyscullion Park surrounded by giddy friends and family – especially their son, who came dressed to impress in his gorgeous little suit (too cute, we can’t cope!). On a day designed to be enjoyed, Megan and Ryan wanted to soak in every moment of their day, as well as the rare Irish summer sunshine and keep their wedding day as relaxed as possible without sacrificing their timeless yet relaxed vision. Capturing the ease and love throughout their big day was their photographer Sheena T Photography, whose gorgeous photos give us a glimpse into this romantic Irish wedding.

In what sounds like the plot of our next favourite romcom, this pair met in the sweetest way. Ryan was at a stag do in Santa Ponsa in Spain and Megan was at a hen in the same place. Sounds like a premonition to us! Once the pair arrived back home in Ireland, they made plans to go on a date and met up the following Sunday!

What made their wedding day even more meaningful was the inclusion of their little boy. We love his braces and Converse combo. Such a cool dude. Megan says the most exciting part of her day was getting the opportunity to share her surname with her partner and her son finally.

Megan and Ryan knew they were meant for one another, so marriage was something they spoke about and even picked out an engagement ring together. The week after, Ryan got down on one knee at Harvey’s Point in Donegal and asked Megan to be his wife – despite previously assuring her that the engagement would be miles down the road!

A gorgeous father-daughter moment always gets us teary-eyed! But check out the beautiful ceremony entrance decor below, full blooms echoing the bridal party’s blush long-stemmed rose bouquets, and tonnes of creeping foliage.

Getting married closer to home – literally two miles from Megan’s front door – was so special for Megan and Ryan. They managed to secure their dream venue and it added an extra layer of ease to the proceedings. Megan says, “We loved that there was not much travelling for our guests, so it gave us more time for pictures and mingling”.

Staying true to their roots, Megan walked down the aisle to a beautiful, traditional Irish instrumental. Adding an extremely personal touch, their first dance song, Wonderful Tonight by Eric Clapton, had an extra layer of meaning for Megan. 36 years ago, Megan’s mother and father danced to the very same song for their first dance on their wedding day. A total tissues moment!

When it comes to sharing a piece of advice for upcoming brides and grooms, Megan and Ryan feel like it’s important to relax, soak up the atmosphere, and enjoy every little moment. Megan says, “It goes so quickly and feels like a lifetime ago once the day does pass, so take it all in.”

Megan wanted her theme to reflect a seasonal summer-into-autumn aesthetic inspired by Pinterest – accompanied by a gorgeous, low sun, the overall vibe was very uplifting. Crucially for Megan and Ryan, they strived to make their wedding feel timeless so that they could look back in 20 years and feel the same way about it, from Ryan’s black-tie style, to Megan’s timeless wedding dress and her choice of satin bridesmaid gowns in a soft neutral shade – this wedding will stand the test of time. She says, “It was summer meets autumn, blush and romantic with hints of autumnal tones”.

Megan and Ryan absolutely loved their marquee – decked out in fairy lights and even a firepit, the couple and their guests enjoyed the summer’s evening, feeling the setting made it all the more unique. Under the stars, they danced the night away, sparklers in hand making for some gorgeous night-time portraits with their guests!
