Cork bride woke up mute on her wedding day – but it didn’t spoil the fun

‘On the morning of the wedding I woke up mute, with no voice (not Covid related) and had to go to the doctor and get a steroid injection in my bum. It didn’t spoil my day though – my voice came back for my vows!’

THE HAPPY COUPLE

Emily Mangan and Seán Barry, both from Co. Cork.

THE RECEPTION

The Garryvoe Hotel. Garryvoe was the only venue we viewed – it had a special place in our hearts growing up and Sean’s parents also got married there, so we didn’t hesitate to book.

THE DRESS

My dress was bought in the most amazing bridal shop in Kinsale called The White and

Gold Bridal, and the design is Alexander Grecco.

THE PHOTOGRAPHER

The amazing Dominic Dunne captured our whole day.

THE HIGHLIGHTS

Our little flower girl started walking just two weeks before the wedding so watching her trot down the aisle warmed everyone’s hearts.

FUNNY MOMENTS

On the morning of the wedding I woke up mute, with no voice (not Covid related) and had to go to the doctor and get a steroid injection in my bum. It didn’t spoil my day though – my voice came back for my vows!

FIRST GLANCE

We met 14 years ago through a fundraiser I held for Chernobyl Children’s Trust. We both went our separate ways as I went traveling and Seán was serving in the military abroad. We stayed in contact though and went on our first date four years ago, sharing a Dip Dab on Youghal beach. And that was it!

ONE PIECE OF ADVICE

My advice would be to delegate jobs to everyone – they will only be delighted to help, as they want to be part of your special day! And take moments throughout the day to pause and take it all in.
