HOLLAND — In the coming weeks, a full-service flower studio will open its doors in downtown Holland.

The Flower House is owned by Molly Kemink, whose passion for floral arrangements began during her childhood in the suburbs of Chicago. She moved to Holland when she was a preteen, sketching flowers in the margins of her high school notebooks and spending her free time admiring the selection of blooms in local flower shops.

After graduating from Holland High School, Kemink returned to Chicago and spent two years pursuing a degree in social work. In that time, she worked for a local florist, where she learned the art of processing flowers and honed her skills.

The experience gave her the confidence to design her sister’s wedding flowers when the pandemic changed plans at the last minute. Kemink left college and decided to pursue a career as a florist.

Within a month, she was working in a full-service flower shop near her Chicago apartment as head designer. She earned her certification through The Floral Design Institute.

Then, Kemink returned to Holland, establishing her independent wedding flower business: The Flower House. In early November, she’ll open the doors to her own full-service shop at 25 W. Ninth St. — just behind Pathfinder’s Travel.

The boutique will offer wedding, funeral and custom flower arrangements, as well as seasonal subscriptions on a weekly, biweekly or monthly basis. Shoppers will also find a fresh selection of loose flowers, greeting cards, perfumes, candles, jewelry and other gifts.

According to a release, Kemink is “excited to be part of downtown Holland and for the opportunity to provide the perfect arrangements for every occasion to the West Michigan community.”

The business will be open 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesdays-Fridays and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturdays.
