Transgender man resents bride for asking him to wear a dress to her wedding: ‘I’m appalled’

A transgender man doesn’t want to wear a dress to his friend’s wedding.

He asked Reddit’s “Am I the A******? (AITA)” forum to weigh in before deciding what to wear. The issue is that he came out as trans earlier this year. While he is transitioning, he has struggled to get a read on how the bride feels about it.

Although she uses the correct pronouns, Elissa “said a few things here and there that have made me concerned,” but he wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt. The issue arose when she asked him to be part of her wedding party.

The bride insisted that he wear a dress and makeup because “she wants her attendants to match” and he looks “enough like a woman.”

No matter how he tried to rationalize fulfilling her request, it didn’t sit well and caused him to “dissociate.” He wants to know if he should just show up in a suit because “knowing what her personality is like, if I did just show up in a suit, she’d be mad but I don’t think she’d try to stop me.”

Redditors thought the bride was being hurtful.

“I’m appalled by the idea that a close friend of a (trans) man would try so consistently to misgender them,” a person commented.

“Your friend is being disrespectful and dismissive in my opinion,” someone wrote.

“Another bridezilla who cares so much about what people wear at her wedding that she’s willing to risk alienating long-term close friendships,” a TikToker replied.
